Wauconda woman uses emergency response training to save husband’s life
Anne Anderson-Posnack learned CPR last year to help police and rescue crews when disaster hits the area. But the crisis that spurred her use of that life-saving knowledge struck in her own home recently — and paramedics say it saved her husband’s life. More
Chris and his wife, Debra, were hiking in the woods one morning near their home in Medford, Mass., when Chris suddenly collapsed. He was unresponsive, so Debra called 9-1-1 and began CPR. Debra had never taken a CPR class, but had recently heard a radio news story about the new Hands-Only™ CPR technique. She remembered that the correct rhythm for chest compressions was the same as the beat of the Bee Gees' song "'Stayin' Alive."' She pumped on Chris' chest for 15 minutes until the ambulance arrived and paramedics delivered a shock to his heart with an AED. Chris was treated at the hospital and underwent angioplasty. Now he's alive, thanks to Debra and her CPR. The Baders' share their story in the hopes that others will not be afraid to take action in an emergency.

* Only 6.4 percent of sudden cardiac arrest victims survive because the vast majority of those witnessing the arrest are people who do not know how to perform CPR. More...
